More Leafleting in Maryport

More of the Ellenborough-Netherton ward has been leafleted now leaving only half of old Netherton and Pecklewell including Victory Crescent to do.

We've had a lot of positive support and only minimal negative feedback thanks to the man in his underwear shouting profanities at MAR members. We hope to finish the ward as soon as possible.

I have had a slip of paper put through my door in the last few days:

DON'T GET FOOLED - DON'T VOTE BNP!!

I would just like to point a few things out for you:

On your flyer it says that it is rubbish that EU workers keep wages down for local people. Do any of you people that are handing these flyers out work in local factorys? Im guessing not.

I work in a local factory - I along with all the other workers enjoyed attendance bonuses, performance bonuses and anual pay rises. However this is now not the case because EU workers work as many hours as they can (even when they are not supposed to) and this is leaving the wage kitty high and dry thus leaving no money for any type of bonus for anyone.
Would I be telling lies if I said that most of this money is heading into their home countries?? (read the national press)

There are EU workers that have brought their families over to live in England. In one case a man has brought his disabled wife to the UK and they are claiming disability (£200 per week) and have a brand new car from the government, not to mention they went right to the top of the housing list for the town they now live in. This is one case, how many more are getting the same benifits when they have been in the UK for only a matter of months - how can this be helping the country?
And what about the millions of pounds that are going to EU countries in child benifit payments for children that are not even in this country? (I know English people that are entitled to but struggle to claim this benifit)

Your flyer also states that members of the BNP are criminals - all other political parties have members with skeletons in their closets.

I must admit that your flyer seems to be a cheap attempt of bad naming the BNP - there is no political point or fact to your flyer????
Is it not true that the BNP are the only political group that has to have their flyers ect checked to make sure that there are no lies on them? If there are lies on any material they print they can be charged with insighting racial hate?

On a ending note - I would like to say that I am not a member of the BNP. I dont vote for the BNP - however they are the only politcal group that seems to make any sense nowadays. I dont agree with all of their views, but in years to come I want my children to enjoy christmas and other British festivals (which ethinc groups are trying to stop as it offends them).
It just seems to me that If you are English & Christian (and in some cases white) you are a second class citizen.

I dont suppose this will be allowed to be posted on your website, but I hope that you understand that I have a freedom of speach and my comments are as constructive as I can make them.

Anonymous 1,

Just so you know, the only reason comments are moderating on this website is because we get the occasional Nazi who leaves us a long list of abuse and threats. Your comments are welcome.

I don’t think any of our members work in factories in Maryport, a few of my mates do though. Most of our members live and work in Maryport though. I work for Age Concern when I’m back in Maryport and the group co-ordinator works in Mitchells shop.

Thanks for your information about the factories in Maryport. We are always happy to correct our mistakes if we're wrong. You should come along to one of our meetings if you want to discuss this further though, I'd be happy to talk to you about it.

However, the point is that whatever the problems in Maryport, and I know there are problems as I have lived there all my life, the BNP are no solution. They tell lies and exaggerate to get elected and then do very little. The BNP's crap, lazy councillors are well-documented:

http://www.zen26144.zen.co.uk/articles/crapcouncillors.htm

Other political parties do have criminals as their membership but in the BNP it is the criminals who are in charge, from top to bottom. For example, at a time when the BNP only had 20 councillors, that was a couple of years ago, over half of them had serious criminal convictions. Today that figure is still almost half the total of BNP councillors.

It’s not true that the BNP are the only political group to get their flyers, etc checked. All political parties have to do it. Even our group had its flyers checked before we handed them out.

All that we have said in our flyer about the BNP has been checked and is true.

Ethnic groups are not trying to stop Christmas, this has been exaggerated by the media. Have a read of this article:

http://82.69.12.18/lancasteruafblog/index.php?itemid=598

The BNP offer no solutions, only division and hatred. For example in Burnley racist attacks soared by 149% after the BNP had councillors elected.

Anonymous 2,

I am an English person from Maryport and I'm a member of the group.

We are trying to help ordinary people in Maryport by opposing all forms of racism, it's not just people from ethnic minorities who can be victims of racism.

In addition to this I don't want people where I live being fooled by a party who will lie to us, waste our time and do nothing to solve the real problems in Maryport. All the BNP do is blame immigrants.

What are your views on all the benifits being claimed by European workers for their children back home?

Im sure you will be paying tax and I know your father will be paying lots of tax due to his good job.

Why are people that are not even in our Country allowed to claim benifits?

What is your view on all the illegal immigrants that come into the counrty every day and then are allowed to stay and claim benifits?

What is your view on Muslim females being allowed to wear head dresses, whilst toddlers are banned from shopping centers because he had a hood up in the middle of winter?

Do you think any of this is shocking? I do!!

Any benefits claimed by foreign nationals in this country are claimed back by our government from their country of origin, this is called a reciprocal arrangement. This means that if an Eastern European was to claim benefits such as jobseekers allowance, they get the level of benefits as they would in their own country and our government is payed back.

I suppose you're refering to Duncan when you talk about my father having a good job. My dad is actualy retired on medical grounds.

Illegal immigrants coming to this country are contrary to the popular press, more than often deported. This is unless of course they have a geniune asylum claim. If this is the case I have no problem with a fellow human being placed under our protection.

In the case of Muslim women wearing headresses, I believe that individuals should be allowed to choose their own dress sense whichever religion or creed they are.

Just a quick comment - I'm one of the 5.5 million English people living abroad mentioned. Has anyone looked at our reasons for going overseas? I can't comment for anyone else as I only have my story, but I had very good reasons for getting out of the UK.

My wife is Spanish and has often been the receiver of racist comments and quite a lot of threatening behaviour in the UK. I in turn here in Spain have had hardly any of that, I have been welcomed with open arms by 99% of the poeple I have dealt with. When we were living in the UK I can assre yo that absolutely nothing was given to either of us due to her being freign. She is a qualified teacher with ten years' experience, and yet was unable to get her degree recognised de to red tape. We were entitled to benifits, but didn't take them, and the only things we got from our neighbours was insults, and the occasioal - go home, at which point I'd point out that I already WAS at home, but that there are people capable of more than one language in this world.

It seemed to us that in Hull and Portsmouth where we have lived, people were getting more and more abusive towards foreigners and not thinking about anything at all. I agree there are cheats out there, but for every foreigner I know in the UK (and I know more than the odd one or two) there are at least three teenagers at local schools from local families that decide they are going to live off benifits fr the rest of their lives ust because. I cleaned toilets for three years, worked in supermarkets, worked in a youth hostel. There are plenty of jobs out there for everyone, just people who are too proud to take them. If needs mst you CAN work, and a lot of the people cleaning your streets and doing menial tasks for you are doing precisely that. Many are just waiting for their qualifications to be recognised by a government obsessed with red tape so that they can help with a medical service that many white UK residents don't want to do because of long hours. I wanted out because of bigotry and have no intention of returning to it. I have been treated marvellously by Spanish people and welcomed everywhere I have gone. treated far better than by my own countrymen.

All politicians promise things that they can't or won't do, and none of it seems to be moving us any further forward. I wanted out and have gone precisely because of situations like this. I've seen enough hatred to be sick to the back teeth of it. I admire you for your work, but as someone close to me once said -a bigot is like the pupil of an eye, the more light you pour in, the tighter shut it gets.

Have a good week everyone.
B
